Not only is today the beginning of a new week, it’s also the beginning of my new job. As I enter into the next phase of my career, here are a few articles that got my attention over the weekend. . .
If you love Halloween . . . welcome to the club. As a kid, my sister and I used to start talking about next year’s costume the day after Hallloween. My mom had to finally impose a rule that we couldn’t discuss our costumes until the day after Labor Day. But now as an adult with an inner goth girl, it can be hard to strike a balance between classy and kooky. But Domino has some ideas for how to throw a tasteful Halloween party. The cocktails topped with dry ice look incredible! Spooky, yet chic.
If you’re a fitness fanatic . . . on top of my day job I am also a Bar Method instructor. I started taking classes in 2013 to get in shape for my wedding and it became such an addiction that I was asked by the owners of the Boston studios to join the team. So I was thrilled to see that Michael Phelps has been attending barre classes following his final Olympic victory. Maybe that will convince more guys to try hitting the barre instead of the bar.
If you’re always looking to redeem those celebrities who seem the most shallow and self-serving . . . Kourtney Kardashian has a life rule that finally I can get behind. She refuses to say the word “fat” around her children. In the attempt to promote a healthy body image for her tots, the mother of three has more than once chastised her mother and sisters for using the “f” word around her little family. This is a rule that I’ve recently decided to pick up. I’m also trying to ban any sort of negative talk about my body. Which, I think you can imagine, has been very difficult. But I can only keep working on it.
If you’re in need of a little inspiration this Monday . . . This story hit home with me this week which I’ll share more about in a few days. This dog lived just long enough to see his mom get married. Read the story and see the touching pictures here.
If you long for a more glamorous time . . . Before there was voicemail there were telephone operators. You’ve seen them in the movies: well dressed young women working to connect the phone calls of the likes of Cary Grant and Kim Novak. The Bells were the answering service of the rich and famous in the 1950s and 60s. And though we are in the age of the iPhone, they still have a few famous clients. Read all about them in this nostalgic New York Times piece.
If you have a case of wanderlust . . . I rarely focus my travels on local places but lately I’ve been taking a lot of great day trips. One place I love to go to is Salem, Massachusetts. And though it’s famous for the witch trials and a crazy Halloween night, there is so much more to discover. The Boston Globe wrote up where to eat and what to do in Salem that has nothing to do with witches or weirdos.
Monday Mantra: “Dear Destiny, I am ready now.”
Song of the Week: “Work Bitch” – Britney Spears . . . It worked for Britney, it will work for me.
What I’m Reading: Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Ann Fowler
New! What I’m Binging on: Grace & Frankie . . . I can’t believe it took me so long to get to this on my Netflix. So ridiculously funny and the cast is stellar.
