Must Know Mondays

I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that Mondays have never been my favorite day of the week. But I do believe more and more that a good Monday means a good week ahead. And I also believe that the only person that can make my Monday great is me. Here are a few articles that got my attention over the weekend. . .

If you  are a feminist … I don’t really know why people expect Playboy Magazine to treat the topic of modesty seriously, but it still isn’t right that they should openly mock it. Especially when they’re dealing with a topic that is already highly politicized: the hijab. This commentary from The Washington Post breaks the piece from Playboy down taking the issue past feminism … this is humanism.

If you’re a fitness fanatic … Even when I’m deathly ill I feel guilty about not fitting in my workout. But this guide from Self Magazine tells you when you should skip that morning Bar Method class. Next time I get a tattoo, I’ll know to lay off the sweat sessions for a few days.

If you’re in need of a little inspiration this Monday … as we enter the last few weeks of this crazy election season, we all need a break from the mud slinging and publicity stunts. Last week Shimon Peres, named one of the last surviving pillars of Israel’s founding generation by the New York Times, died at the age of 93. He was a champion for peace in a time of great chaos. Read all about this prolific leader to see what we should deserve in our next president.
If you long for a more glamorous time … Can you believe it’s been 55 years since Breakfast at Tiffany’s was in theaters? Of course I wasn’t alive then but my disbelief is because of how timeless the film seems to be. It really resonates with people of all ages. That might be thanks to it’s leading lady, the incomparable Audrey Hepburn. Here are five things you might not know about everyone’s favorite classic beauty.

If you have a case of wanderlust … and you’re planning a trip, read this guide before you book your flights. I always check the airline sites as well as the discount websites just to make sure I am getting the best deal. And also make sure to turn on a private browsing session before you do your homework. It won’t save the cookies so it won’t drive the prices for flights and hotels up as you shop around.

Final thoughts:

Monday Mantra: “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

Song of the Week: Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven. Since starting my new job, life has gotten a bit more hectic … but for the better. Classical music has always calmed my nerves and allowed me to meditate. Beethoven is one of my favorite composers and I think this is one of his most beautiful compositions.

What I’m Reading: Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Ann Fowler … as I said, my life is crazy. I never get time to read and that makes me sad.

What I’m Craving: Pumpkin Espresso Tiramisu … sounds amazing to me. But if that doesn’t strike your fancy, here are several more pumpkin recipes to get you into the spirit of the fall season.

What I’m Binging on: I’m still working on Grace & Frankie but I am trying to catch up the great shows I have stockpiled on the DVR. One of those being Penny Dreadful. It has an incredible cast led by one of my many celeb crushes, the drop-dead gorgeous Eva Green. I just can’t wait to catch her in the recently released Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. It also doesn’t hurt that my love for Tim Burton knows no bounds.
