Portsmouth, NH

I recently took a week off between ending one job and beginning my new job. And during that week I did a lot of cleaning around the house and errands. But I also took a couple of fantastic day trips. One such trip was to charming Portsmouth, NH. I’ve been to this little city several times and it is always a wonderful excursion.

My mom also took the week off to spend some time with me before I threw myself whole heartedly into this new position. So on our mother/daughter day we wandered around Portsmouth. I bought a few Christmas gifts for my sister’s boyfriend at Off Piste and we had lunch at one of my favorite haunts, The Friendly Toast.

It’s an eclectic restaurant with some very different menu options. The kitchen sink quesadilla is my usual order but I decided to have the coconut cake for a change. Amazing choice, if I do say so myself. My mom shared her eggs benedict with me so I did get in some protein.

Afterwards we did some more shopping at 2nd Time Around where I bought two gorgeous skirts second hand (though admittedly both still had their tags on them) from J.Crew. We also hit the local coffee shop, Breaking New Grounds, for a chai before heading home.

If you live in the New England area, or you’re vacationing here, do yourself a favor and make a pit stop in Portsmouth, NH. If you’re a beer lover you will appreciate the Portsmouth Brewery, a microbrewery right in the center of town. And there are several gift and antique jewelry stores lining the main streets that are just begging to be discovered.

It’s a great day trip for the entire family!
