I love Oscar Wilde. When I visited Paris, I made my husband get up super early on our last day to head out to Père Lachaise Cemetery just so I could visit one of my favorite author’s grave. He has so many iconic quotes, but this has always been a standout to me.
Though I was born in the U.S., I have always felt very European when it comes to my attitude about work/life balance. Here in America we’re taught the “live to work” approach, hence why we’re overworked, we only end up taking a handful of our vacation days and work seems to seep into our weekends. In Europe, it’s a “work to live” mindset, in other words – work so you can afford to live life to the fullest.
I felt like this quote, paired with this adorable image, really set the tone for what is promising to be a busy few weeks. And I need to keep reminding myself that I don’t want to get into a situation where I am living to work. I want to work so that every day of my life is fulfilling, but I still get a lot of freedom to play. After all, inside of us all is a child like the one in the picture above. And I want to let her out.
