Monday Motivation

On Saturday morning I woke up feeling pretty sluggish. I wanted nothing more than to just crawl back into bed for a few more hours. Then I looked at my phone and realized that I had to get my butt up because I had a Booty by Bradley class at 9:15 a.m.

It is an intense workout that focuses on your glutes (hence, “booty”) and thighs taught by Studio Poise owner, Danielle Bradley. The first half is some serious cardio and there are often times when I feel like I’m dying. But then I see Danielle at the front of the class, a new mom, and she is kicking ass. And I know that I have to pick it up.

Lately she’s been including more real dance moves into the classes, which I love. But as a former classically trained dancer, I have never been someone who has been able to move her booty and not look like I’m having a conniption fit. I know that this self consciousness held me back during my first few classes.

So today when I showed up for class, I planned to sneak in to the back corner. But as always, I was running late and got there right before it started. And where was the only spot left on the floor? Directly in back and to the left of Danielle. So I had no choice but to take my place and start moving my booty.

Now I don’t know if it’s because I wasn’t feeling my best or maybe I was overtired but I totally zoned out during class. I completely let go of everything. When I realized what I was actually doing, I was amazed. Not only was I keeping right up with her (well, almost), I looked better than I ever have doing moves that I usually look ridiculous trying to pull off.

It taught me that sometimes you just need to let go and dance like no one is watching. Or as my Monday motivation quote says, “Darling, don’t ever be too shy to dance your heart out.”

P.S. If you live in North Shore Massachusetts, I highly suggest you check out Studio Poise. You will get an amazing workout and leave feeling energized and empowered.
