Wanderlust Wednesday: NYC

Years ago I was lucky enough to call the Lower East side home. Then I moved to Brooklyn Heights and I fell in love with the beautiful brownstones and the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a great time of my life. It was where I discovered who I was, where I was living when I started dating my husband and it’s where I figured out what I wanted out of life.

Since I moved back to the Boston area, I have tried to get back to the city that never sleeps at least once a year. But with all the traveling I did last year and then some career shuffling, I haven’t been back since January, 2016. Now after reading Fifth Avenue, 5 a.m.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman (I talked about this in last week’s Friday’s Finds), I realize that it is time to make a return trip to what I consider my home away from home.

So I’m making plans for a September or October weekend. We’ll hit all of my favorite places … the Bridge, I might visit J. Colby Smith’s new Brooklyn studio for another piercing, Magnolia Bakery for the most delicious cupcakes, Rockerfeller Center (where we got engaged), Saks Fifth Avenue (I can never buy anything there but I love their window displays), the Strand, etc. and try and meet up with some old friends.

What are your favorite New York City spots? I am always looking for new spots to explore in one of my favorite places in the world so please share them in the comments.

  1. One day I will go to New York and see the wonders that everyone talks about! Hopefully you’ll write a blog post when you go in September/October? It all sounds great!
