Hate has been brewing in our nation’s capital. And it seems like hate will continue to spew from what was arguably once America’s most respected office for another three and a half years (or God forbid, seven and a half).
Last week, it was announced that transgender people would not be allowed to serve in the military. Here we go again.
Now I do believe that this declaration was a ploy to distract the media and the American people from continuing to discuss the ordeal with Russia. But the fact remains that our president, the person who is supposed to do everything in his power to protect us, is attacking our LGBTQ brothers and sisters.
I think that many of our elected officials should take a page from Walt Whitman’s book and “be curious, not judgemental.” We all need to put aside our preconceived notions, the stereotypes we subscribe to, and use our differences as an opportunity to learn more about each other and the human condition.
Instead of spending so much time and emotion into hating people, wouldn’t it take a lot less effort to embrace each other with an open mind?
